What Does the Bible say about Angels?

Mankind lives in a physical, tangible world, which is influenced by the invisible, spiritual world around us.  This spiritual world is just as real in our day as it was when the Lord Jesus walked the face of the earth.  Glimpses into this spirit world are revealed from time to time through the Old and New Testaments. 

Ministering Spirits – Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?  Hebrews 1:14

Angels Worship Jesus - And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship Him.  – Hebrews 1:6

God’s Angels Obey Him – Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey His word – Psalms 103.20

God’s Angels Praise Him – Praise Him, all his angels; praise Him, all His heavenly hosts – Psalm 148:2.

Angels Attended To Jesus After The Devil’s Temptation – Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended Him.  Matthew 4:11

Jesus could have been delivered by legions of angels from his cruel death on the cross:  Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels – Matthew 26:53.

Angels at Resurrection – But Mary stood outside the tomb crying.  As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot – John 20:11, 12.

Angels as our Body Guards – For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways – Psalm 91:11.

Angels Delivered Daniel from the Lion’s Den – My God sent His angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions.  They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.  Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king.  Daniel 6:22

Angel Delivered Peter from the Prison  - And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison; and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly.  And his chains fell off from his hands.

Angel Killed Herod for not giving glory to God – And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. 

Angel Can appear as people undetected – Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.  Hebrews 13:2

Children all have personal angels that appear before God – See that you do not look down on one of these little ones.  For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven – Matthew 18:10.

Angels are Immortal - And they can no longer die; for they are like the angels.  They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection – Luke 20:36

There are multitudes of Angels in heaven in joyful assembly – But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God.  You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly.  Hebrews 12:22

True Angles of God Refused Human Worship – Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”  At this I fell at his feet to worship him.  But he said to me, “Do not do it!  I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus.  Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy – Revelation 19: 9-10

And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.  But he said to me “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book.  Worship God – Revelation 22:8-9.

Worship of Angels are Forbidden – Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize.  Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions - Colossians 2:18

Angels carries the righteous home at death – The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side.  The rich man also died and was buried – Luke 16:22.

There are two angels that are specifically given names in the Bible. 

Archangel Michael – And there was war in heaven.  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.  But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.  The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.  He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him – Revelation 12:7-9.

 Angel Gabriel – The angel answered, “I am Gabriel.  I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.  Luke 1:19.

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee – Luke 1:26

And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.  16 – And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.  Daniel 8:15-16

Daniel 9:21-22 – Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.  And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. 

Angel Spoke to Cornelius – One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision.  He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said “Cornelius!” Cornelius stared at him in fear “What is it, Lord? He asked.  The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.  And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter - Acts 10:3-5.

Angel Do Not Marry – At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven – Matthew 22:30

Elijah and Jezebel - 1 King 19:5-7

Elisha and the enemy forces - 2 Kings 6:17
When enemy forces surrounded Elisha, God sent multitudes of angels to protect him.
Hezekiah and Isaiah - 2 Chronicles 32:20-21
When Hezekiah and Isaiah cried out in prayer to heaven, the Lord sent an angel to deliver Jerusalem from their enemies.
